Crown and Bridge in Boca Raton, FL

Crown and Bridge in Boca Raton, FL

Dental crowns and bridges are restorations that are used to repair or replace teeth. A crown is a cap that is placed over a tooth. It can cover a tooth that is broken, worn, or misshapen. A crown can also hold a dental bridge in place. A bridge is a dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth. A bridge includes two or more crowns on either side of the gap with false teeth in between.

Dental Crown

A crown is a restoration that covers the entire tooth surface, restoring your smile’s health and beauty. When a tooth is fractured or broken, treated endodontically, or severely worn down from grinding, a crown may be recommended to restore strength and function to the damaged tooth.

Crowns are made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, gold alloys, zirconia, or a combination of these materials. Each material offers unique advantages for different types of patients. Our dentist in Boca Raton, FL can help you determine which type of dental crown is right for you.

Dental Crown Procedure

If our dentist recommends a dental crown, you can expect the procedure to take at least two visits to complete. During the first visit, the tooth is prepared to receive the crown. This involves reshaping the tooth and reducing its size so the crown can fit comfortably over it.

After the tooth is prepared, an impression will be taken and sent to our trusted lab, where your custom crown will be created. While you wait for the permanent crown to be made, a temporary crown will be attached to protect your prepared tooth and prevent it from shifting out of place until the permanent restoration is ready.

Once your custom crown is ready, you’ll return to our office to have it placed permanently over your prepared tooth. The fit will be checked to make sure your bite is comfortable before bonding the crown in place.

To care for your new dental crown, brush and floss daily as you would your natural teeth. You should also avoid chewing ice or other hard foods that could crack your crown. With proper care and cleaning, your crown can last long while providing you with a beautiful, healthy-looking smile.

Dental Bridge

A bridge is a prosthetic that replaces missing teeth. It fills in the gap in your mouth to prevent your teeth from shifting, which can affect your bite and lead to other oral health problems, including TMJ disorder. Dental crowns are cemented to your existing teeth on each side of the gap to support the bridge. With proper oral care and regular dental checkups, a bridge can last for many years.

A dental bridge is recommended if you have one or more missing teeth in a row. It helps prevent your other teeth from moving out of place and restores your smile’s appearance.

Dental Bridges Procedure

A bridge consists of two crowns, or caps, and one or more prosthetic teeth that fit into the gap left by the missing teeth. The crowns are cemented onto the teeth adjacent to the empty space and hold the false tooth in the middle in place.

Getting a bridge requires two visits to the dentist’s office. During your first appointment, the teeth on either side of the gap will be prepared to receive the crowns. This involves removing a portion of the enamel on each tooth to make room for the dental crowns.

You’ll wear a temporary restoration to protect your smile while you wait for your permanent one to be made. During your second appointment, your temporary bridge will be removed, and your new dental bridge will be secured to the prepared teeth using dental cement. Bridges can also be supported by dental implants for even greater stability.
